Highlighting Text

Use the Highlight tool to add a colored shape behind text in your design. It can help short text stand out on custom stickers, labels, decals, packaging, and other printed products.

Highlight works well for flavor names, scent names, sale notes, warnings, short calls to action, or text that needs extra contrast against the background.

How to Turn On Highlight

  • Select the text you want to highlight.
  • Find the Highlight slider in the text styling options.
  • Use the color box and slider to adjust the highlight color and size.
  • Click the small gear icon next to Highlight to open more settings.

Highlight will only appear when the selected text does not have Drop Shadow or Curve turned on.

How to Adjust the Highlight Shape

Inside the Highlight settings, use the top toggle to choose how the highlight fits your text.

  • Fill: Extends the highlight across the full text box.
  • Fit: Keeps the highlight closer to the text inside the box.

You can also adjust the overall shape of the highlight:

  • Constrain: Keeps the highlight proportions consistent as you adjust the size. Use the checkbox next to Constrain to turn it on or off.
  • Horizontal: Makes the highlight wider or narrower.
  • Vertical: Makes the highlight taller or shorter.
  • Roundness: Changes how rounded the highlight corners are.
  • Transparency: Adjusts how see-through or opaque the highlight is.

How to Change Highlight Colors and Borders

The Highlight settings also include fill, stroke, and weight options.

  • Fill: Changes the main color of the highlight.
  • Stroke: Changes the border color around the highlight.
  • Weight: Makes the stroke border thinner or thicker.

How to Remove a Highlight

If you decide you do not want the highlight, or you want to start fresh, click Remove at the bottom of the Highlight menu.

Things to Keep in Mind

Use highlight when text needs stronger contrast or more emphasis. For the clearest result, choose a highlight color that makes the text easier to read, not just more colorful.

Highlight is usually most effective on short text. If too much text is highlighted, the most important details may stop standing out.

👊 Stomp Tip: Before ordering, zoom out and check whether the highlighted text is still easy to read at the size it will appear on your finished product.
